At Liz’s Book Bar, our baristas and bartenders will serve up coffee, beer, wine, and book recommendations. This position is ideal for individuals with previous hospitality experience who love to read and are passionate about books. As a new company, there is significant opportunity for advancement, with the potential to grow into a supervisor role and to learn the ins and outs of the book industry, including seasonal and weekly ordering.
Essential duties:
Preparing coffee and espresso drinks
Serving beer and wine and speaking knowledgeably about the menu
Offering book recommendations to customers and ordering books for customers upon request
Supporting the subscription programs by submitting monthly book recommendations
Writing shelf talkers for books you’re excited to recommend to customers
Assisting with social media posts
Maintaining a clean bar, including performing side work as assigned
Helping to maintain a clean space throughout the store, including busing tables as necessary, and organizing shelves and display tables
Maintaining inventory logs of all bar essentials and keeping a fully stocked bar for coffee, beer, and wine operations
Shelving books as new titles are received
Maintaining restroom cleanliness and taking out trash as necessary
Any and all other duties assigned by the supervisor or General Manager
Qualifications and skills
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and to be proactive about solving problems as they arise
Strong communication and people skills
Ability to multi-task
Availability on weekends, evenings, and holidays depending on store needs
NYC Food Safety Certificate required
All applicants should understand that this job requires some manual labor, including lifting and carrying boxes.
$16/hour + tips.
